Nacoa Patron, Geraldine James OBE presented the BBC Radio 4 Appeal for Nacoa on 24 March to help children affected by their parent’s drinking.
“Imagine a childhood where your life is taken over by your parents’ drink problem.
Imagine coming home from school and not knowing what you’ll find. Imagine having no friends because you can’t bring them home, you live in fear and have no one to turn to because everyone denies that there’s a problem.
I know what it’s like to grow up with a parent who drinks too much.”

Thanks to the generosity of Radio 4’s listeners the appeal has so far raised over £6k. The helpline has been especially busy since Geraldine went on air. Sadly the problems don’t just go away when people reach adulthood. We are very pleased that so many people who heard it felt able to get in touch for help and support. Nacoa are here for everyone who is, or has been, affected by parental alcohol problems.
