Policies and procedures to ensure best practice

In 1999 helpline volunteer Dr Rhian Huxtable, supervised by Professor D Sharp, completed the first helpline evaluation, which looked at the organisation as a whole, the need to record data to inform the delivery and development of the helpline and other supporting services.

This evaluation led to the creation and continual development of a call card to record data relevant to callers which informed the foundation training programme, ongoing training, supervision and support for volunteer helpline counsellors who could then provide a comprehensive and specialised service specific to the needs of children of alcoholics.

In response to our evaluations, with the help of the Consultative Council, policies and procedures have been developed to ensure best practice. To see our policies, visit our Governance page.

You are not alone

Remember the Six "C"s

I didn’t cause it
I can’t control it
I can’t cure it
I can take care of myself
I can communicate my feelings
I can make healthy choices
