Calum Best reunites with Amelie for Smiley News
Nacoa patron Calum Best met 12 year old Amelie this year at Nacoa’s Stafford Ward Lecture at the House of Commons. Calum Best is a tireless and dedicated campaigner to support children affected by a parent’s drinking.
A bond was quickly formed based on their shared experiences. Amelie was delivering her letter to Parliament calling on government to support children like her who are affected by a parent’s drinking:
“Please change the law around alcohol and help children like me so not as many people end up like this. If you even care about lives and want to save more people, then the NHS won’t be so busy! Please I beg you! Please help Nacoa to help children of alcoholics so they can be happyer [sic] and have someone to understand them. I miss my dad so much and so does my brother. I would be so happy if you help us all please.”
Ignored by government, again
Sent attached with a letter from Nacoa and Alcohol Families Alliance, sadly Amelie’s letter was ignored by the former government. But we look with hope to presenting it again soon!
So we teamed up with Smiley News to reunite Calum with Amelie after that powerful and emotional day. To share experiences and how Nacoa helped them to cope.
That is what is captured in this powerful film which has 100ks of views online.
