Nacoa volunteers support London Recovery Network event
Tuesday 29 September saw a team of Nacoa volunteers join London Recovery Network’s Recovery in the Capital event.
This was an opportunity to connect with people from across London’s recovery community and share details of the support we offers to everyone affected by a parent’s drinking.
About London Recovery Network
London Recovery Network brings together individuals and organisations committed to supporting recovery from problematic drug and alcohol use. They aim to improve awareness and connectivity across the recovery landscape so professionals and peers can better understand and share the community support available.
Nacoa on the day
Greg, Simon, Beth, Tori and Sonja represented us by staffing a stand to share information about our work and Helpline, which is open to anyone of any age affected by a parent’s drinking, with no referral needed.
The stand also had a jar where visitors could leave a note to their younger selves, giving people a chance to reflect on their own experiences and share what they wish they’d been told back then.
This event was a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness about the amazing support that Nacoa provides to children affected by a parent’s drinking. It was inspirational to meet so many people who give up their time in the name of helping others.

Why events like this matter
Many people in recovery grew up with a parent’s drinking themselves, and many parents in recovery are also raising children who may need support of their own.
Being part of London’s wider recovery community helps Nacoa reach people at both ends of that experience, and to connect with other organisations who can help spread the word about our Helpline.
We’re grateful to Greg, Simon, Beth, Tori and Sonja for giving their time, and to London Recovery Network for inviting us.
I hadn’t been involved in volunteering with the charity for quite a while. I met and chatted with numerous delegates, raising awareness of the charity and their work. My experience helped me to re-discover a fluid, easy level of communication to be an effective team member.
