In Their Words: COA Lives with Jonathan Ashworth
We are so proud to share the announce the launch of In Their Words: COA Lives with Jonathan Ashworth.
A brand new podcast series hosted by Nacoa UK. Patron and COA campaigner, Jonathan Ashworth gives voice to people whose childhoods were affected by a parent’s drinking.
What to expect?
Each episode will feature a special guest to hear their story. Shared with honesty and bravery as well as humour and love. It’s about shining a light on experiences often forced into the shadows.
Series One will feature:
- Calum Best
- Sarah Drage
- Camilla Tominey
- Ian Stringer
- Josh Connolly
- Loti Nambombe
- Amy Dickson
- Amelie and Lucy Peek
By listening and sharing these stories, we are building greater understanding, compassion and support.
Giving a voice to these experiences reduces the shame and stigma. It helps others know that they are not alone.

What is a COA?
A ‘COA’ is a ‘Child of an Alcoholic’ – someone of any age who has grown up with a parent who drinks too much.
But COA can identify as a ‘child of addict’, ‘child of addiction’, ‘child of alcohol-dependent’. It’s a community name for those of us affected by a parent’s addiction.
I know how healing it can be to find a fellow thread of fellow feeling. I know how painful it be to feel alone.
Rt Hon Jonathan Ashworth
