Adult Child of an Alcoholic
The fearful child expecting the worst lives within
Her cries were repeatedly drowned in gin
Now this sober adult lives with her depression
Tries her hardest not to fester in regression
A repetitive series of emotional fighting
Feels guilt imagining the source of her pain dying
And that she’ll feel relief
Even if it’s brief
Maybe she’ll be free
Or resentful of what’s going to be
Doesn’t make her bad
But mad
Which continues this cycle of sad.
