Sophie K appointed as a Nacoa Patron
We are extremely proud to announce that Sophie K is appointed to Nacoa’s team of patrons.
Nacoa patrons are prominent ambassadors for Nacoa and our cause supporting people affected by their parent’s drinking. Since her first appearance on a #LunchtimeLives episode last year, Sophie has emerged as a powerful speaker for those affected by parental addiction.
Sophie says of the appointment: ‘Being a patron of Nacoa is important to me because I want to spread awareness about how the disease of addiction affects children and leaves effects which last for life. I also want people who are stuck in pain to know that there are places for support, and healing. You are not alone.’
A hopeful voice for children and young people
Sophie K is a respected presenter in the world of rock. She presents for Kerrang Radio, Absolute Radio and Amazon Music to name a few.
Sophie was raised in a home affected by alcohol problems. Her mother was a successful model and worked for names like Vivienne Westwood. Keeping the secret of her mother’s alcoholism from the world, Sophie faced traumatic experiences that still affect her today.
In her #LunchtimeLives interview with Josh Connolly, Sophie blew the audience away with her insights about trauma informed therapy. Her experiences of treatment for complex PTSD have assisted her in becoming a brilliant, honest and hopeful voice for children of alcoholic parents.
Sophie says, ‘I joined a recovery group which helped me deal with the impacts it has on the adult brain. I learnt about the impact of complex PTSD and how to manage the symptoms which include suicidal ideation caused by emotional flashbacks.’
Together we will show more children that despite difficult and even traumatic upbringings, we can all go on to lead happy and fulfilled lives.
